Samsung Galaxy S8 (SM-G950) spares: the model with curved glass on both sides
This category brings together replacement parts for the Samsung Galaxy S8, the 5.8-inch model Samsung launched in 2017 with a curved-edge screen and glass on the back. We currently offer a screen assembly and a 3000 mAh battery, the two parts most commonly replaced in this phone.
Our range is aimed both at individuals who want to keep using their phone and at repair shops that regularly work on this model. As the S8 is held together with adhesive at almost every join, it is worth checking the details of each part before placing your order.
From the SM-G950F to the SC-02J: how to check if your phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8
All Galaxy S8 variants have the SM-G950 prefix, except the Japanese models. To find yours, go to Settings > About phone, where the model number is displayed; it is also printed on the label on the original box. The most common variants are:
- SM-G950F and SM-G950FD: European and international versions, with one or two SIM cards and an Exynos 8895 processor.
- SM-G950U and SM-G950U1 (unlocked US versions), SM-G950A, SM-G950P, SM-G950T and SM-G950V (US carriers), and SM-G950W (Canada), with Snapdragon 835.
- SM-G9500 (China) and SM-G950N (South Korea).
- SC-02J (docomo) and SCV36 (au), the Japanese versions.
The processor varies by region, but this does not affect your choice: the S8 screen and battery are sold as parts compatible with the entire G950 family. It is worth checking the related models, though. The Galaxy S8+ (SM-G955) has a 6.2-inch screen and a 3500 mAh battery, while the Galaxy S8 Active (SM-G892A) has a flat screen and a 4000 mAh battery. Neither their screens nor their batteries fit the S8, even though they are quite similar internally.
Which Samsung Galaxy S8 parts we offer and what to check before ordering
The S8's Quad HD+ curved screen assembly
The S8 originally comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED panel with a Quad HD+ resolution (2960 x 1440) and curved edges. The front glass is laminated to the panel, so replacing the glass alone is not possible without damaging the image. This is why the replacement is sold as a complete screen assembly, with the panel and touchscreen already fitted.
The compatible screen assembly for Samsung Galaxy S8 (G950) is Premium quality, a compatible alternative to Samsung's service part and suitable for the G950 variants listed above. One advantage of this model is that the fingerprint reader is on the back, next to the camera, so your choice of screen quality does not affect fingerprint unlocking.
Before buying, check the product details to see whether the part includes a frame. If it comes fitted to a new chassis, the motherboard and the other components need to be transferred, and it is a good idea to fit a new battery at the same time. If it comes without a frame and the original is bent from the impact, the screen may not sit properly and could be put under strain, so replacing the chassis as well is recommended.
The EB-BG950ABE battery and its adhesive fixing
The original S8 battery has the part number EB-BG950ABE: 3000 mAh at 3.85 V (around 11.55 Wh), and it is not user-removable. The 3000 mAh battery compatible with Galaxy S8 that we sell is Premium quality and retains the rated capacity of the original part. It fits all G950 variants, but not the S8+ or S8 Active, which use higher-capacity batteries of a different size.
The main challenge with this replacement is the way the battery is secured. The glass back cover is glued to the chassis and the battery is held in place with very strong adhesive, so heat or isopropyl alcohol is needed to remove it without bending it. Make sure you have new adhesive strips for both the battery and the back cover, as the original strips cannot be reused.
Rear fingerprint reader, chassis and water resistance: Galaxy S8 repair considerations
The S8 was sold with an IP68 rating, but that protection depends on the adhesive seals around the back cover and screen. Once the phone has been opened, the seal depends on the adhesive used when closing it, so water resistance cannot be guaranteed after either of these parts has been replaced.
The middle chassis is more than just a housing: it contains the speaker and NFC antenna, and also supports the screen. If you choose a screen with a frame, remember that these components need to be transferred to the new chassis. For repair shops, the advantage is that the internals are fairly modular, and many components can be replaced separately once the back cover has been removed.
Finally, the S8 features a rear fingerprint reader, iris scanner and facial recognition. We have not found any Samsung documentation indicating that the screen or battery is software-paired with the motherboard on this model, but it is worth testing all unlocking methods before fully closing the phone.
Frequently asked questions from repair shops and users about the Samsung Galaxy S8
Does the Galaxy S8 screen fit the Galaxy S8+?
No. The S8 has a 5.8-inch screen and the S8+ has a 6.2-inch screen, and they have different model codes (SM-G950 and SM-G955 respectively). Check the prefix in Settings before placing your order.
Is the same part suitable for a European SM-G950F and a US SM-G950U?
Yes, the screen and battery are sold as compatible with all G950 variants, even though they use different processors. Network bands and software vary between regions, not the format of these components.
Can I replace only the broken glass on my S8?
In practical terms, no. The curved glass is laminated to the AMOLED panel, and separating them usually damages the screen, so the complete screen assembly must be replaced.
Will my Galaxy S8 remain water-resistant after replacing the battery?
This cannot be guaranteed. The back cover has to be removed to access the battery, and the final seal depends on the new adhesive and how it is applied.
