In this section, you’ll find parts for the Motorola Moto G31, the 4G model from late 2021 that brought a 6.4-inch OLED screen to Motorola’s entry-level range. There are currently two parts available: the complete screen assembly in OEM quality and the 5000 mAh battery with code JK50. They’re suitable both for individuals repairing their own device and for repair shops looking to confirm compatibility before ordering.

Motorola Moto G31 (XT2173): how to tell it apart from the G41, G71 5G and G30

The Moto G31 is sold under the XT2173 code family. Registered certifications show at least three regional variants: XT2173-1, XT2173-2 and XT2173-3, with the latter being the most common in European units. They all share the Helio G85 processor, 4G connectivity and a 5000 mAh battery.

To check your phone’s code, go to Settings > About phone and check the model or regulatory information section. It’s worth checking before ordering, as Motorola’s 2021 range includes several models with almost identical looks and screen sizes:

  • Moto G41 (XT2167): the same 6.4-inch OLED screen and identical processor, but with 30 W charging.
  • Moto G71 5G (XT2169): the panel has the same specifications, although it features a Snapdragon 695, 5G connectivity and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
  • Moto G30: its direct predecessor, it uses a 90 Hz LCD panel, so its screen is not compatible with the G31, even though the batteries share the JK50 code.

The two Motorola Moto G31 parts and what to consider when choosing them

One panel shared by three models in the 2021 series

Out of the box, the G31 has a 6.4-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels and a 60 Hz refresh rate. The G41 and G71 5G have panels with identical specifications, which is why our OEM complete screen for Moto G31, G41 and G71 5G fits all three. This is useful for repair shops: a single part in stock covers three popular models.

As the original screen runs at 60 Hz, you don’t need to worry about losing a high refresh rate when replacing it, as can happen with other models from the brand. Also, no G31 version has an under-display fingerprint sensor, so replacing the screen won’t affect fingerprint unlocking. This is a complete screen: the touchscreen glass and panel come as a single assembly. It’s therefore the part you need whether the glass is broken or the panel is damaged while the glass remains intact.

Capacity, JK50 code and 10 W charging limit

The 5000 mAh JK50 battery compatible with Motorola Moto G31 is Premium quality, an affordable compatible option. It has the same capacity as the factory-fitted battery, which Motorola rated at 4850 mAh nominal and 5000 mAh typical. If you see both figures on a label or in the documentation, they refer to the same cell.

Bear in mind that the G31 charges at a maximum of 10 W, while the G41 supports up to 30 W. A new battery restores battery life, but won’t shorten the time needed for a full charge, which is around two and a half hours on this model. The technical documentation we consulted does not indicate that the G31 pairs the battery with the motherboard or displays non-genuine part warnings. The JK50 code is also used in other Motorola phones, so check that your model is listed as compatible with the part before ordering.

Where the fingerprint sensor is on your Moto G31 and what this means for repairs

The fingerprint sensor isn’t in the same position on every unit. Reviews of the European variant show it integrated into the side power button, while the version launched in Brazil has it in the rear logo. To check which version you have, simply remember where you registered your fingerprint when setting up the device.

On both models, the fingerprint sensor works independently of the screen, so the same complete screen fits either version. The rear casing is made of textured plastic, and the device has a water-repellent treatment designed to protect against splashes, not immersion. Don’t assume that this protection remains intact after opening the phone to replace any part.

Frequently asked questions from repair shops and users about the Motorola Moto G31

Is a Moto G41 or G71 5G screen compatible with my G31?

All three models have a 6.4-inch OLED panel with the same resolution and refresh rate, and the OEM complete screen in this category fits all three. The same does not apply to the Moto G30, which has a different LCD panel.

Will the fingerprint sensor stop working when I replace the screen?

It shouldn’t be affected. Depending on the variant, the sensor is in the power button or the rear logo, never under the panel, so its operation does not depend on the screen.

My original battery is rated at 4850 mAh. Is it the same as the 5000 mAh one?

Yes. Motorola rated the G31’s JK50 cell at 4850 mAh nominal capacity and 5000 mAh typical capacity. These are two ways of expressing the capacity of the same battery.

Will it charge faster if I use a 30 W charger?

No. The Moto G31 supports a maximum of 10 W, and replacing the battery does not change this limit. A full charge will still take more than two hours.

How can I tell if my phone is an XT2173-3 or another variant?

You can check this under Settings > About phone, in the model or regulatory information section. All XT2173 variants are Moto G31 4G models.
