This category includes spare parts for the Microsoft Surface Go 2, the 10.5-inch 2-in-1 tablet Microsoft launched in 2020 with an 8th-generation Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y or Core m3 processor. You can currently find the screen assembly and the battery here, the two parts that require the device to be opened from the front for replacement. Before buying, check the exact model: the Surface Go 2 shares model numbers with the Surface Go 3 and looks very similar to the first Surface Go.

Microsoft Surface Go 2: models 1901, 1926 and 1927, and how to tell it apart from the Go 3

Microsoft produced the Surface Go 2 in three versions: 1901 (Wi-Fi for personal use), 1926 (Wi-Fi for business use) and 1927 (LTE). The model number is printed beneath the rear kickstand, next to the serial number, so you can check it without turning the device on.

Confusion arises because the Surface Go 3 reuses the 1901 and 1926 codes for its Wi-Fi editions; only its LTE variant has its own code, 2022. If your tablet shows 1901 or 1926, open the Surface app (device information) or System Information (msinfo32): the System Model field should show Surface Go 2, and the SKU will have a format such as Surface_Go_2_1901.

The distinction from the first Surface Go (models 1824 and 1825) lies in the screen: it has a 10-inch diagonal and thicker bezels, compared with the Go 2's 10.5 inches. For this reason, their screen assemblies are not interchangeable, even though the aluminium chassis is almost identical.

Surface Go 2: 10.5-inch PixelSense screen with 1920 x 1280 pixel resolution

The Surface Go 2 features a 10.5-inch PixelSense panel with a 1920 x 1280 resolution (220 ppi), a 3:2 aspect ratio, 10-point touch, Surface Pen support and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Laboratory tests classify it as an IPS LCD. The glass, panel and digitiser form a single unit, so a cracked screen requires the complete assembly to be replaced.

The complete screen for Microsoft Surface Go 2 is available in Original quality, the highest grade available on the spare-parts market for this device. This quality matches the factory specifications: the same resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio and an integrated digitiser for touch and pen input.

The Surface Go 3 retained the same dimensions and resolution, and repair manuals treat the screen assembly for both generations as an identical part. This simplifies stock management for repair shops that service both models; the 10-inch screen from the first Surface Go will not fit.

Surface Go 2 with a 3500 mAh, 26.81 Wh G16TA047H battery

The original Surface Go 2 battery has two cells and reference G16TA047H, with a voltage of 7.66 V and a capacity of 26.81 Wh. In milliamp-hours, this energy is approximately 3500 mAh, so both figures describe the same part, although listings may use either one.

The 3500 mAh G16TA047H battery compatible with Surface Go 2 is sold in Premium quality, offering a compatible battery at a more affordable price than Microsoft's official replacement. Before buying, compare the reference printed on your device's battery with G16TA047H and check that your tablet is a Go 2 (1901, 1926 or 1927), as this is the part in this category that is most closely tied to the specific model.

Bear in mind how it is fitted: the cell is glued to the chassis with strong adhesive, and its connector is beneath a metal shield. Removing it requires heat and some force, and the screen must always be removed first, as explained in the next section.

On the Microsoft Surface Go 2, all repairs are carried out from the front

The Surface Go 2 has no removable rear cover: the aluminium casing is part of the thermal management system, and access to any internal component is through lifting the screen. Compared with the first Go, Microsoft replaced the front adhesive with foam adhesive tape, making it much easier to open, and uses just one type of screw inside.

In practice, this means that replacing the battery involves detaching the screen, and the panel flex cables run close to the edge, where they are easily damaged. If the glass is already cracked or chipped, consider replacing the screen and battery in the same repair: this saves you from opening the device a second time and avoids the risk of the glass breaking further when lifted.

Frequently asked questions about 10.5-inch Surface Go 2 replacement parts

My tablet shows 1901 beneath the kickstand: is it a Surface Go 2?

Not always. The 1901 code is also used by the Surface Go 3 Wi-Fi, as is 1926. Check the System Model in msinfo32 or the Surface app; only 1927 confirms beyond doubt that it is a Go 2, in its LTE variant.

Is the original Surface Go screen compatible with the Go 2?

No. The first Surface Go (1824 and 1825) has a 10-inch panel, while the Go 2 has a 10.5-inch panel with a 1920 x 1280 resolution. The usable screen size, bezels and resolution differ, so the assembly will not fit.

Can the Surface Go 2 battery be replaced without removing the screen?

No. Access is only from the front, and the battery is adhesively attached to the chassis beneath the metal plate. Bear in mind that you will need to detach the screen and have the correct adhesive to refit it.

My battery says 26.8 Wh and yours says 3500 mAh. Are they the same?

Yes, provided the reference is the same. The G16TA047H operates at 7.66 V, and 3500 mAh at this voltage is equivalent to 26.81 Wh. Check the G16TA047H code printed on the cell, not how the capacity is expressed.
