This section covers replacement parts for the Google Pixel 7 from 2022, the 6.3-inch model with a Tensor G2 processor and a camera bar spanning the entire width of the back. Here you’ll find an OLED screen, fingerprint sensor, battery, rear cover, main camera, camera glass and internal flex cables for this phone. Before ordering, check the model code: the Pixel 7 shares its name and appearance with the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7a, but their components are not interchangeable.

GVU6C, GQML3 and GO3Z5: Google Pixel 7 model codes

The Google Pixel 7 was released in two hardware variants. The GVU6C is the international version, with 5G sub-6 GHz, and is also listed as GO3Z5 (in some records, G03Z5) for Japan. The GQML3 is the US edition, which includes 5G mmWave and has mmWave antenna modules inside that are not present in the GVU6C.

To identify your model, go to Settings > About phone > Model & hardware. The screen and battery are sold as compatible with both GVU6C and GQML3, so the model code is mainly relevant when working with components related to network coverage.

The most common mix-up is between models from the same generation. The Pixel 7 Pro (GP4BC, GE2AE and GFE4J) has a 6.7-inch screen and a 4926 mAh battery, while the Pixel 7a uses a 6.1-inch panel. Neither their screens, batteries nor rear covers will fit a Pixel 7.

The Google Pixel 7 has an optical fingerprint sensor beneath its 6.3-inch OLED

The original panel is a 6.3-inch OLED with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. The fingerprint reader is optical and sits beneath the screen, although it is not part of the panel itself: it is a flex module fitted to the inside of the screen. It’s therefore worth checking whether the replacement you choose already includes it.

The complete OLED screen for Google Pixel 7 is currently available in OLED quality. Check the product listing to see whether it includes the reader. If it doesn’t, you can reuse the one from your broken screen or fit a new fingerprint sensor flex cable for Pixel 7 if the old module cannot be reused.

After replacing the screen, Google says the reader must be calibrated using its Pixel Repair Tool web tool, with the phone connected to a computer in fastboot mode. Repair forums include cases where fingerprint enrolment still cannot be completed with some replacement panels, even after calibration. Bear this in mind when choosing a screen. PIN or pattern unlocking does not depend on this step.

Front access and pull tabs on the Pixel 7’s 4355 mAh battery

The GZE8U 4355 mAh battery for Google Pixel 7 is the cell reference for this model. The specifications list 4355 mAh typical and 4270 mAh minimum, so you’ll find both figures on labels and product listings: they refer to the same battery. The one available from us is Premium quality and compatible with Google Pixel 7.

The battery is not accessed from the back of the Pixel 7. You must first remove the screen, which is secured to the frame with plastic clips and adhesive. The cell is held in place with pull tabs and very strong adhesive. In practice, every battery replacement involves lifting the screen, which puts the panel at risk. You’ll also need new adhesive to reseal the phone.

If the screen is also damaged, it’s worth replacing both parts during the same opening. That way, you only have to open the phone once.

The Google Pixel 7’s rear glass is bonded to the chassis

The Pixel 7’s glass rear cover is attached to the frame with adhesive and cannot be removed without applying heat. Google does not sell this component as an original self-repair replacement, so the available rear covers are compatible with Google Pixel 7. The rear cover for Google Pixel 7 in white, black or green is available in Premium quality.

The three colours match the factory finishes: White for Snow, Black for Obsidian and Green for Lemongrass. Before ordering, check the product images to see whether the rear cover includes the camera glass and adhesive. On the Pixel 7, the glass protecting the lenses is a separate part that is also sold separately.

Inside the Google Pixel 7: separate camera modules and a soldered USB-C port

Two separate rear camera modules and an outer glass cover on the Pixel 7

The Pixel 7 has a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilisation and a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, each housed in its own module. The 50 MP main rear camera for Pixel 7, in Original quality, replaces only the main sensor and does not affect the ultra-wide camera.

The glass covering the lenses has cracked on many devices, even when there have been no visible drops. As it is replaced from the outside using heat, without opening the device, the rear camera lens for Google Pixel 7 is the part to check first if only the glass is cracked and the module is still working.

The USB-C port is soldered to the board on the Pixel 7

On the Pixel 7, the USB-C connector is not fitted to a sub-board: it is soldered to the mainboard, just as it is on the Pixel 7 Pro. That’s why the USB-C charging port (Pixel 7 Pro reference) is a part for micro-soldering, intended for repair shops using a hot-air station. As its name refers to the Pixel 7 Pro, check the product listing for compatibility with your device.

The other available internal parts are supplied in Original quality:

Common questions from Pixel 7 GVU6C and GQML3 owners and repair shops

Will the fingerprint reader work after replacing the Pixel 7 screen?

It must be calibrated using Google’s Pixel Repair Tool in fastboot mode from a PC. With the original screen, this is usually completed without any issues. Calibration can fail with third-party panels, so it’s worth bearing this in mind.

Can I use a battery from a Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 7a?

No. The Pixel 7 Pro battery is 4926 mAh and has different dimensions, while the Pixel 7a is a different model. The correct reference for the Pixel 7 is the GZE8U 4355 mAh.

The camera glass has cracked even though I haven’t dropped the phone. Do I need to replace the camera?

Not necessarily. The outer glass is a separate part and can be replaced without opening the device. The module only needs replacing if the camera itself has also been damaged.

Will the phone remain water-resistant after repair?

The Pixel 7 leaves the factory with an IP68 rating, which depends on the screen and rear adhesive. Once the phone has been opened, that protection is no longer guaranteed, even if you fit new adhesive.
