This section brings together parts for Apple iPhone 7 Plus, the 5.5-inch version with a solid-state home button, Touch ID and dual rear camera. You’ll find a screen assembly, front glass with frame, battery, charging flex cable, rear camera and Lightning cable. Before choosing a part, check the model number and bear in mind that the home button affects any repair to the front of the phone.

Apple iPhone 7 Plus uses model numbers A1661, A1784, A1785 and A1786

The model number is engraved on the rear casing. Apple lists A1661, A1784 and A1785 (the latter for Japan), and there is also the A1786 variant, sold by China Mobile. The four models differ in modem and frequency bands, but share the same screen, battery and camera, so parts in this category fit all of them. In diagnostic tools, A1661 is identified as iPhone9,2 and A1784 as iPhone9,4.

It is often confused with the iPhone 8 Plus (A1864, A1897 and A1898): the same size, same button and same dual camera. To tell them apart, look at the back: the 7 Plus has an aluminium back, while the 8 Plus has a glass back. Their screens are not interchangeable, as the ambient light sensor is different and the top mounting points also vary: tabs on the 7 Plus and metal brackets on the 8 Plus.

The iPhone 7 Plus front can be replaced with a complete assembly or just the front glass with frame

The 7 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch Retina HD LCD with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (401 ppi), P3 wide colour and 3D Touch. It does not include True Tone, so there is no such feature to retain when replacing the panel. The choice is how much you want to replace: the complete assembly or just the outer glass.

LCD and touchscreen in white or black

The LCD screen and touchscreen compatible with iPhone 7 Plus is now available in Premium quality and in White or Black. Choose the colour of the front frame your phone had. This is the most straightforward option if you see lines, spots or touchscreen faults, as it replaces the complete assembly. Check the product details to see which components are pre-installed: with this type of assembly, the home button, front camera, earpiece and LCD backplate usually need to be transferred from the old screen. 3D Touch response may vary depending on the manufacturer of the compatible panel.

Original front glass and frame for refurbishment

The original front glass with frame for iPhone 7 Plus is intended for those whose original LCD is in good condition and only the glass is broken. Replacing it involves separating the glass from the panel, removing the frame and laminating it again. This makes it an option for repair shops with a separator and laminator that can preserve the customer’s factory-fitted panel.

iPhone 7 Plus Touch ID relies on its original home button

On the 7 Plus, the home button is not mechanical: it is a capacitive sensor, and the Taptic Engine simulates the click. It is also paired with the logic board. If you install a different home button that is not an official Apple part, neither Touch ID nor the return-to-home function will work, and the system will only offer the AssistiveTouch virtual button.

This affects the choice of any front part: you need to transfer the original button and protect its flex cable during installation, as a damaged cable has the same effect as a new button. If your button is faulty, no screen assembly will restore Touch ID. The 7 Plus also opens from the side like a book, with perimeter adhesive that is difficult to remove and tri-point screws. Once opened, the factory IP67 rating can no longer be guaranteed.

2900 mAh capacity and pull tabs on the iPhone 7 Plus battery

The original cell has a capacity of 2900 mAh, 3.82 V and 11.1 Wh, slightly higher than the 6s Plus. The 2900 mAh battery for iPhone 7 Plus maintains this rated capacity. It is secured to the chassis with adhesive pull tabs, which stretch to release it without levering, so it’s a good idea to have new strips ready for installation.

Apple’s unknown part notifications for batteries apply from the iPhone XR and XS onwards. The 7 Plus is not covered by this system, so replacing the battery does not require pairing it with the logic board.

For the iPhone 7 Plus, choose the charging flex cable and dual camera by colour and version

Lightning connector in white or dark grey

The charging port flex cable for iPhone 7 Plus is available in OEM quality and in White or dark grey, so the visible connector matches your device’s finish. On this model, the flex cable is attached to the frame, beneath the Taptic Engine, and the connector has a rubber seal. This repair is more involved than replacing the battery, as it requires removing the screen and Taptic Engine.

12 MP dual rear camera

The rear of the 7 Plus combines a 12 MP f/1.8 wide-angle camera with optical image stabilisation and a 12 MP f/2.8 telephoto lens that offers 2x optical zoom and Portrait mode. The original rear camera for iPhone 7 Plus is designed for this setup. Although the 8 Plus camera is similar, always check that the module is specifically for the 7 Plus.

Lightning cable for charging and testing

The 7 Plus charges and syncs via Lightning. After replacing the charging flex cable, the compatible 8-pin to USB Lightning cable lets you check charging and the connection to a computer.

Touch ID, battery notifications and 8 Plus screens: frequently asked questions about iPhone 7 Plus

Can I install an iPhone 8 Plus screen in my iPhone 7 Plus?

It is not a reliable option. The ambient light sensor and top mounting system are different, and repair shops have found 7 Plus screens sold as 8 Plus screens because they look so similar. Always choose a screen specifically for iPhone 7 Plus.

Will I lose Touch ID if I replace the screen?

No, provided you transfer the original home button without damaging its flex cable. Touch ID is only lost if the button is replaced or its cable breaks.

Will my iPhone tell me the battery is not genuine?

Apple’s unknown part messages apply from the iPhone XR and XS onwards. This notification does not appear on the 7 Plus.

How can I tell if I have a 7 Plus rather than an 8 Plus?

Check the number engraved on the back: A1661, A1784, A1785 or A1786 identify a 7 Plus. The 7 Plus has an aluminium back, while the 8 Plus has a glass back.
