Apple assigns four codes to the same phone, depending on the sales region: A3520 is the version sold in Spain and most other countries, A3258 is for the United States and Puerto Rico, A3519 is for Canada, Mexico, Japan and several Gulf countries, and A3521 is for mainland China. To check yours, go to Settings > General > About and tap the model number: the code beginning with A replaces the retail reference.

The risk of confusion lies with the related models. The iPhone 17 Pro (A3256, A3522, A3523 and A3524) no longer opens from the rear and has a battery in a screwed-down tray, so its internal components have a different design. The screen is not interchangeable with the iPhone 16 either: the iPhone 17 screen is slightly taller and narrower and uses a different connector. If your code is not one of the four listed above, this is not the right category for you.

Three grades for the iPhone 17’s 6.3-inch ProMotion screen

The iPhone 17 is Apple’s first standard model with 1–120 Hz ProMotion and an Always-On display, reaching peaks of 3000 nits outdoors. These are the three complete screen options available in our catalogue:

• Original complete screen for iPhone 17: currently available in Original grade. The premium option for anyone looking for the factory colour, brightness and touch response.
• OLED screen compatible with iPhone 17: replacement-grade OLED, at a mid-range price and using the same panel technology as the original.
• Premium screen compatible with iPhone 17: Premium grade, generally the most affordable of the three options.

For compatible grades, check each product listing to see whether it retains 120 Hz and the Always-On display, as these features depend on the panel itself. On this model, the front camera, ambient light sensor and earpiece are not supplied with the new screen: they must be transferred from the old one. This is why Face ID does not come with the screen, although the assembly should be handled with great care. If the impact has also damaged the iPhone 17 earpiece flex cable, replace it during the same repair.

Outside an authorised service, iOS will show the screen as an Unknown Part in the parts history, and True Tone and automatic brightness adjustment may not work. An original screen may also appear as unknown or used if it is not paired using Apple’s Repair Assistant.

3692 mAh and electrically releasable adhesive in the Apple iPhone 17

The 3692 mAh battery for iPhone 17 has the same capacity as the original. Apple does not include this information in its technical specifications, although it is listed on the European energy label. We now offer it in Premium grade, compatible with iPhone 17. It is not suitable for the iPhone 17 Pro (4252 mAh) or iPhone Air (3149 mAh), which use batteries of a different size.

On this model, the battery is held in place with adhesive that releases when an electric current is applied, rather than pull tabs. It can be accessed by removing the rear glass without touching the screen. A software warning will appear: if the battery is not genuine, Settings > General > About will show it as an Unknown Part, and Apple warns that battery health information may not be accurate. This warning does not prevent the battery from charging and working normally.

The Apple iPhone 17 opens from the rear without a laser or removing the screen

Unlike the 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 retains the dual-entry design: the rear glass is bonded with adhesive that softens with heat and can be removed separately, without a laser. It remains connected to the inside by a flex cable, and Apple recommends running Repair Assistant when replacing it. The catalogue has two versions in OEM grade:

No. The iPhone 17 screen is 6.3 inches, compared with 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16, and has a different shape and connector. Always buy a screen specifically for iPhone 17.

Can you replace the iPhone 17 battery without removing the screen?

Yes. Thanks to the dual-entry design, the battery can be reached by removing the rear glass. The screen is replaced in the same way: from the front, without touching the rear cover.

Why does Unknown Part appear after replacement?

iOS records the battery, screen and cameras in the parts history. If a part is not genuine or has not been paired using Repair Assistant, it will appear as unknown. You’ll see a warning the first time you unlock the iPhone after the repair, and another five days later.

Does it remain water-resistant after opening?

The iPhone 17 leaves the factory with an IP68 rating, but new adhesive seals must be fitted when opening it. From that point onwards, water resistance is no longer guaranteed.
