Samsung A30s screen: what you get and what to expect when you turn it on
Your phone falls, the glass looks like a spider's web, but your Galaxy A30s is still running underneath. We see this happen all the time at iLevante. This Samsung A30s screen is Premium quality and comes as a complete screen assembly: LCD panel, touch layer, connection flex cable and image controller, all in one piece. No need to separate the glass or glue layers together yourself.
Brightness and resolution of the Premium Samsung A30s screen
It offers maximum brightness of 455 nits across the same 6.4-inch display as the phone, with HD+ resolution of 1560 × 720 pixels, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 268 ppi. Your apps, keyboard and V-shaped notch are all right where they were before.
There is one detail that is often overlooked. The A30s originally came with Super AMOLED, where each black pixel switches off, while this replacement uses a backlight. Blacks will look slightly less deep, so the iLevante team recommends turning off Always On Display if you had it enabled: with the panel constantly lit, it uses battery for little benefit.
Samsung A30s screen and fingerprint reader: read this before buying
This screen is not compatible with the fingerprint reader. The A30s has an optical sensor under the panel: it reads your finger using light that passes through an AMOLED display, which an LCD screen does not allow. People on forums who say their fingerprint reader stopped working after replacing the screen are usually dealing with this exact issue, and no calibration will fix it.
Is that a problem? It depends on how you use your phone. The fingerprint reader was already one of the phone's weaker features: slow and unreliable. Many people end up using a PIN or pattern anyway. Before buying, check which banking or payment apps rely on your fingerprint so you can set up another way to sign in.
A note about the sensors, too. Samsung placed the proximity sensor under the display in this 2019 Galaxy A range, so some features may not work as expected. Most likely, you will notice that the screen does not switch off automatically when you hold the phone to your ear during a call, or that automatic brightness does not respond in the same way.
Are you sure the Samsung A30s screen is the faulty part?
It is worth taking a minute to check before ordering, because a screen fault and a motherboard fault can look similar.
- Cracked glass, black spots, or green and white lines: these point to a faulty panel. Restarting the phone or performing a factory reset will not usually get rid of those lines.
- Black screen, but the phone rings or vibrates: the screen is also a likely candidate for replacement.
- Ghost touches: first try removing the screen protector and cleaning the display thoroughly. A cheap protector or dirt trapped underneath can sometimes be the only cause.
- Green, pixelated image from startup, and the phone does not respond when connected to a computer: the cause is less clear. The motherboard may be faulty, in which case a new screen will not solve the problem.
Models compatible with the Samsung A307 screen
Compatible with the 2019 Galaxy A30s, reference SM-A307, including variants SM-A307F/DS, SM-A307FN/DS, SM-A307G/DS, SM-A307GN/DS and SM-A307GT/DS. You can check your model under Settings > About phone.
Be careful with the name, as it can be confusing: the Galaxy A30 (SM-A30• uses a different screen, with Full HD+ resolution, and this one will not fit. One letter's difference can mean a return.
How to replace the Samsung A30s screen step by step
This guide has been put together by the iLevante team for the A307, which has one particular quirk: the plastic back cover is glued in place, so you need to start from the back, even though the damage is on the front. Your order includes a free tool kit, with plastic picks that are softer than the phone to help prevent marks, and a free screen protector for your new display. You will also need adhesive for the screen and back cover.
Before opening your Galaxy A30s
If you can still see anything on the screen, back up your data and remove your fingerprints under Settings > Biometrics and security > Fingerprints. Make sure you remember your PIN or pattern: from now on, it will be your way to unlock the phone. Before you start, discharge any static electricity by touching a metal object.
How to replace the Samsung A30s screen
- Turn off the phone and remove the SIM tray.
- Heat the back cover with a heat gun or hairdryer. Keep the temperature below around 80°C and do not hold the heat in one spot for more than a couple of seconds, as the plastic may warp. Start opening the cover with a pick and leave it in place as you work around the edge.
- Remove the 14 PH000 screws and carefully lift off the midframe. Keep the screws together; they are tiny.
- Disconnect the battery before touching anything else. This helps prevent a short circuit.
- Disconnect the screen connector. Use a plastic tool and gentle pressure: flex cables tear easily.
- Turn the phone over and heat around the edge of the damaged screen. Slowly work the picks underneath without pushing them in too far, then release the panel and its flex cable.
- Remove all the adhesive residue from the frame; a little isopropyl alcohol can help. If the impact bent a corner of the frame, straighten it now or the new panel will not sit flat.
- Feed the new panel's flex cable through its opening, connect it, reconnect the battery and turn on the phone before applying any adhesive. Test the touchscreen across the entire surface, from corner to corner.
- Turn the phone off, disconnect the battery, apply the adhesive, position the screen and press down along the edges and corners.
- Reconnect everything, refit the midframe with its 14 screws and glue the back cover in place.
- Clean the glass and apply the screen protector in a dust-free room.
Can I replace the Samsung A30s screen myself?
Hundreds of customers have already done it themselves. With care and patience, it is within reach of most people. If you have opened phones before, it takes around 20 minutes; if it is your first time, set aside an hour and take your time. Removing the back cover is the trickiest part, and doing the repair yourself can save you tens of euros compared with a repair shop.
After installing the Samsung A30s screen: common issues
- The screen goes black during calls: press the power or volume button to turn it back on. This is related to the proximity sensor, and the screen itself is fine.
- No image, or the touchscreen only works in some areas: in most cases, the connector is not properly seated. Open the phone again and reconnect it with the battery disconnected.
- Ghost touches after fitting the screen protector: there is usually dust underneath. Lift it, clean the screen and apply it again.
- The back cover does not sit flush: check that no screw or flex cable is out of place before pressing down harder.
