iPhone 17 Pro rear cover with complete frame

By switching from titanium to 7000-series aerospace-grade aluminium, Apple made the iPhone 17 Pro chassis from a single piece: a hot-forged unibody that forms the side frame, almost the entire back and the camera plateau, which runs from one side to the other. That is why, when we talk about the iPhone 17 Pro rear cover for this model, we mean the structure onto which everything else is fitted. This rear cover frame for iPhone 17 Pro is an original-quality replacement that replicates the part with the device’s exact dimensions (150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm), the same cut-outs and the same anodised finish.

If your iPhone 17 Pro took a hard hit that cracked the back, it?s pretty common that the front may also have suffered?so while you?re restoring that like-new premium finish, you might also want to check the display. To complete the repair and leave your phone looking flawless on both sides, consider pairing this back cover with a Complete Screen for iPhone 17 Pro if you need a full front replacement, or choose the Complete OLED Screen for iPhone 17 Pro for a sharper, more vibrant OLED experience. That way, you?ll end up with a fully renewed iPhone 17 Pro: solid, well-aligned, and ready to enjoy again without cracks, creaks, or visual defects.

It comes more complete than most. As well as the chassis, the manufacturer supplies several components already fitted that you would have to buy separately with other replacement parts:

  • Mid-frame and side rails, which form the unibody structure.
  • Rear camera lenses with their bezels: the glass protecting the three 48 MP lenses and the rings around them.
  • Side buttons (power, volume and Action button) and the Camera Control button.
  • Nano-SIM tray in the matching colour.
  • Speaker dust mesh, which is often dirty or oxidised on a used chassis.

It does not include the rear Ceramic Shield glass panel, the small window beneath which the MagSafe magnetic ring and wireless charging system sit. These components are transferred from your phone.

iPhone 17 Pro rear cover colours: Silver, Deep Blue and Cosmic Orange

We offer the frame in all three factory finishes. Silver is the best at disguising everyday wear. Deep Blue was in the spotlight during the first few weeks after launch, when marks appeared on display units. Apple later clarified that these were material transfer from worn MagSafe stands in shops, not actual scratches. Cosmic Orange is the most eye-catching finish and also the one that needs the most care when cleaning, as we explain below.

Many customers take the opportunity to change colour during the repair. This is possible, although it is worth bearing in mind that the rear glass you reuse will retain its original colour. If you want the whole back to match, we recommend checking with the iLevante team before placing your order.

Why the iPhone 17 Pro frame gets damaged

Aluminium has clear advantages. Its thermal conductivity is much higher than titanium’s and, in the 17 Pro, the chassis acts as a heat sink for the vapour chamber that cools the A19 Pro chip. The trade-off is that it marks more easily than titanium. In the units that come through our workshop, we mainly see three types of damage:

  • Dented corners from drops. Aluminium yields and deforms rather than cracking, and a dented corner can put pressure on the screen or compromise the seal.
  • Chipped edges around the camera plateau. This raised section is almost straight, and the anodised coating is more fragile on its narrow edges. Apple acknowledges that small abrasions can appear there with normal use, and many cases leave this area exposed.
  • Broken or scratched camera lenses. Each camera has its own protective glass. When it breaks, you may see flare, blurry images and, over time, dust inside the module.

There is also a less common but genuine issue: some Cosmic Orange units have developed a pink or “rose gold” tint on the metal areas. The most widely accepted explanation is that certain harsh cleaning products, especially those containing peroxide, damage the anodised oxide layer. Our advice is simple: use a slightly damp microfibre cloth and keep solvents away from the metal.

How to tell if you need to replace the iPhone 17 Pro rear cover

A minor scratch is not a reason to open the phone. We recommend replacing the chassis if you notice any of the following:

  • The frame is bent or the screen has lifted away from the edge.
  • A camera lens is broken and the damage also affects the camera plateau or its rings.
  • The buttons have lost their feel, are stuck down, or Camera Control stops responding after an impact to the side.
  • The anodised coating is peeling in several places and can no longer be disguised.

In these cases, a replacement part supplied with the lenses, buttons, tray and mesh already fitted saves workshop time and avoids mixing parts from different sources.

Compatibility: the SIM tray detail

This frame includes a nano-SIM tray, so it is for the iPhone 17 Pro version sold in Europe and most other markets, with nano-SIM and eSIM. Units from the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico and several Gulf countries are eSIM-only and their chassis has no SIM slot. If your phone was purchased elsewhere, check the model number in Settings > General > About before buying. This is a common ordering mistake.

Installing the rear cover frame for iPhone 17 Pro: what you need to know

This is the most extensive repair the device allows, as it involves transferring the entire phone into a new chassis. The 17 Pro can no longer be opened from the back to reach the internal components: all access is through the screen. During the fitting test, the iLevante team followed these steps:

  1. Heat and separate the screen using a suction cup and thin picks, without bending the old frame and damaging the flex cables.
  2. Remove the shields and disconnect the battery. This model uses less adhesive and more screws, making it easier to remove without deforming it.
  3. Remove the logic board, the rear camera module, speakers, haptic motor and USB-C connector. The USB-C connector is the most time-consuming component to remove because it is secured behind many screws.
  4. Transfer the rear glass with its MagSafe and wireless charging module, applying new adhesive around the entire perimeter.
  5. Fit everything into the new frame, clean the inside of the lenses before screwing the cameras into place, and close the phone with new screen adhesive.

There are a few details you only discover when working on this model. The device uses several types of screws, including tri-point screws and the bottom pentalobe screws, so you should have precision screwdrivers and, if possible, control the tightening torque. The two bottom screws next to the USB-C port match the colour of the housing: if you change colour, your old screws will not match. The camera cables are shorter and more fragile than in previous generations, so disconnect them carefully. A flex cable that is not seated correctly in the lower section can also cause the phone to stop detecting the SIM.

About water resistance: the iPhone 17 Pro leaves the factory with an IP68 rating, meaning it can be submerged to a depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes. Once opened, its water resistance depends entirely on the new adhesive being fitted correctly. The sensible approach is to assume that the phone’s water resistance is no longer guaranteed.

If you are not experienced with microsoldering or full device teardowns, iLevante can advise you before you order so you know exactly which tools and consumables you will need.

Original quality: what we have checked in the workshop

In the iLevante team’s tests, this frame matched the factory part in the areas that matter most:

  • The internal threads accept the original screws without forcing them.
  • The buttons have the original travel and click.
  • The screen sits flush with the edge, without gaps or unevenness.
  • The lenses do not cause unusual reflections in night-time photos or when using the 4x telephoto lens.

Compared with the official chassis, which the manufacturer supplies with a battery included and at a fairly high price, this is a sensible way to restore the look and solid feel of the iPhone 17 Pro without paying the price of a new one.

Workshop tip: once fitted, protect it with a case that covers the edges of the camera plateau. This is the part of the anodised finish that takes the most wear and shows signs of use first.
