Complete Xiaomi 11T Pro screen: restore the factory-fresh display to your «vili»

The Xiaomi 11T Pro went on sale on 5 October 2021. Internally, it is known by the codename vili. Its Snapdragon 888 processor and 120 W charging made headlines, but its screen was just as important: a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution (2400 × 1080 pixels), 395 ppi, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a 480 Hz touch sampling rate. It is a delicate component. A knock to one corner can leave black spots even if the glass does not break.

Signs that your Xiaomi 11T Pro screen needs replacing

How to replace the Xiaomi 11T Pro screen step by step

The repair is of medium difficulty. You need to open the phone from the back to access the screen connector. The rear cover is made of bonded glass, so it takes heat and patience to remove. Your order includes a free screwdriver kit with the precision bits you need. This is the order of work followed by the iLevante repair team:

1. Switch off the phone and remove the SIM tray.
2. Heat the rear cover to around 80 °C for several minutes, then lift it with a suction cup and opening picks. Do not insert the pick more than 3–4 mm. Antenna and flash cables run along the edges.
3. Remove the screws from the top cover, which houses the NFC module and a graphite sheet. Carefully remove the cover.
4. Disconnect the battery. The 11T Pro has two cells with separate connectors, so disconnect both before touching the screen flex cable. This step is often forgotten and can cause short circuits.
5. Disconnect the screen connector from the motherboard using a plastic tool, never a metal one.
6. Heat the front of the phone and separate the damaged screen from the frame. Start at the bottom and work slowly along the sides. If the panel is badly cracked, covering it with adhesive tape helps stop glass fragments from flying off.
7. Clean the old adhesive from the frame with isopropyl alcohol and thread the new flex cable through the slot in the frame.
8. Connect and test before gluing. Reconnect the battery, switch on the phone and check the image, touch response at all four corners and automatic brightness. If everything works, switch it off, apply new adhesive and press the screen in place for a few minutes.
9. Reassemble the phone by refitting the top cover and rear cover with a new seal. The phone has an IP53 rating, and the original seal cannot be reused.

Workshop tip: strong impacts can sometimes damage the motherboard too, and this may only become apparent once the phone is open. If fast charging stops working or the phone gets unusually hot after the replacement, check the flex cables running through the frame before blaming the new screen.
