Redmi Note 10 Pro and Note 9 Pro 4G Battery: BN53 / BN52 5020mAh Cell

The Redmi Note 10 Pro was launched in March 2021 with a 5020mAh battery and 33W charging. One year earlier, the Redmi Note 9 Pro had used virtually the same cell with 30W charging. Both phones earned an excellent reputation for their battery life. In tests of the original handset, the Note 10 Pro achieved an estimated battery life of 118 hours, while the Note 9 Pro reached 123 hours. This calculation combines one hour of calls, one hour of web browsing and one hour of video playback each day. With moderate use, the Note 10 Pro lasted almost two and a half days away from the charger.

Those figures were recorded with a new battery. Today, many of these phones have completed hundreds of charging cycles, and the lithium-ion chemistry has gradually deteriorated. The iLevante workshop team sees the same symptoms time and again: the percentage drops suddenly, the phone switches off at 15 or 20%, it takes much longer to charge, or the rear cover starts to lift. The latter is a sign of a swollen battery, which must be replaced as soon as possible. This Redmi Note 10 Pro battery restores the phone's original factory capacity.

Redmi Note 10 Pro BN53 / BN52 Battery Specifications

  • Part number: BN53 / BN52
  • Capacity: 5020mAh typical (4920mAh rated)
  • Chemistry: lithium polymer (Li-Po)
  • Voltage: 3.87V nominal, 4.45V maximum charging voltage
  • Energy: approximately 19Wh
  • Quality: OEM
  • Includes: adhesive strips for securing the cell and a free screwdriver kit

It is normal for a battery to show two different capacity figures. Manufacturers provide a typical value (the production average, 5020mAh in this case) and a minimum guaranteed rated value (4920mAh). This is why some boxes show one figure and others show the other, even though they contain the same cell.

OEM Battery: What It Means for This Replacement

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. An OEM battery is manufactured to the same specifications as the one fitted by the brand: the same capacity, voltage, dimensions and connector to the motherboard. The difference is that it is not sold in Xiaomi packaging. In practice, the phone recognises it without any problems, fast charging works normally, and the cell fits its compartment securely without gaps or spacers.

Models Compatible with the Redmi Note 10 Pro Battery

There are many similar names in this Redmi family, and a large proportion of battery returns are caused by this confusion. This cell is compatible with the following models:

  • Redmi Note 10 Pro 4G: M2101K6G and M2101K6R
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro Max: M2101K6I
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro (global 4G version): M2003J6B2G
  • Redmi Note 9 Pro Max: M2003J6B1I

You can find the model code under Settings > About phone > Specifications. The Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G are different phones, with a different motherboard and battery, so this cell is not suitable for them.

Xiaomi used the BN52 and BN53 references in these models, and repair forums confirm this with specific cases. One frequently cited example concerns a Note 9 Pro that only showed a flashing LED and would not start with a replacement BN52. The same phone worked as soon as a BN53 was installed. For this reason, the iLevante team recommends carrying out a quick check before ordering: when you open the phone, look at the marking on the installed battery and compare it with the marking on the new one. If you are unsure about your device, our team can help you confirm compatibility before you place your order.

How to Replace the Redmi Note 10 Pro Battery

Compared with other mobile phones, this replacement is relatively straightforward. In the workshop, it takes us around 20 minutes, while someone doing it for the first time and working carefully should allow approximately 45 minutes. The most delicate part is the rear cover, which is made of glass and glued in place. The rest is simply a matter of working methodically.

  1. Discharge the battery below 25% before starting. If the cell is accidentally punctured, the lower its charge, the lower the risk of it heating up dangerously.
  2. Switch off the phone and remove the SIM tray.
  3. Heat the rear cover for a couple of minutes using a hairdryer or a heat gun at a moderate temperature. Then lift it with a suction cup and insert picks around the edge. Do not insert the pick too deeply near the volume buttons, as the side-button flex cable runs directly underneath and also contains the fingerprint reader.
  4. Remove the 17 screws from the mid-frame. There are nine at the top (the dark ones) and eight at the bottom (the light ones). Keep them separate because they are not the same length.
  5. Disconnect the battery connector before touching anything else.
  6. The original battery has two pull tabs. Pull them slowly and horizontally without bending the cell. If they break, a few drops of isopropyl alcohol underneath will soften the adhesive.
  7. Place the included adhesive strips on the chassis where the old ones were, connect the new battery and switch on the phone to test it before closing it.

Step 7 is often forgotten and can be costly: if the phone does not start after the cover has been glued back on, you will have to heat and open it again. The free screwdriver kit supplied with the battery includes the bit required for the chassis screws. To reattach the rear cover, you will need B7000-type adhesive or a pre-cut adhesive sheet.

Also bear in mind that the Redmi Note 10 Pro has IP53 protection against dust and splashes. This protection depends on the cover seal, so once the phone has been opened, it will lose or have reduced protection. In addition, if the phone is still under warranty, opening it yourself will invalidate the warranty.

Common Problems After Replacing the Redmi Note 10 Pro Battery

Almost all the queries we receive after a replacement are caused by installation issues rather than by the battery itself. If the phone does not switch on, the first thing to check is the connector. It must be inserted straight and click into place, as a partially connected connector causes the same symptoms as a faulty cell. Another common situation is that the phone does not start immediately after installation because the battery arrives from storage with a low charge. Leaving it connected to the charger for a few minutes usually resolves the issue.

It can also happen that, a few days later, the battery life seems worse than before the replacement. On the Note 10 Pro, some MIUI 13 and MIUI 14 updates caused abnormal background consumption, which many users mistook for a worn-out battery. Before blaming the new cell, check under Settings > Battery which app is using the most power and see whether any updates are pending. Another useful detail is that, with the display set to 120Hz, the phone loses approximately half a day's battery life compared with 60Hz.

During the first few days, the percentage indicator may be slightly inaccurate while the system adapts to the new cell. The iLevante team recommends completing two or three full cycles, charging to 100% and then almost fully discharging the battery, so that the percentage becomes reliable again. After that, 33W charging should return to its usual performance: around 50% in half an hour and a full charge in just under an hour and a half with the original charger.
